STRIPES OF TRADITION – Introducing Urbanknit’s Listra Clutch

Urbanknit launches a new collection of handcrafted clutches. The envelope-style purse is known as the Listra Clutch and is made using vintage versions of the Nigerian fabric known as Aso-Òkè.

Aso-Òkè (pronounced ah-SHOW-kay) is a hand loomed cloth woven by the Yoruba tribe of south west Nigeria. It is usually worn on formal occasions such as coronations, festivals, weddings and funerals. It is considered to be special and symbolic with certain colours and motifs appropriate for specific occasions.

Its history, texture, colours are unique and make the Listra clutch a small part of a larger more elaborate and intricate picture. 

The Listra clutch is also available in Ankara and Adire.

Angela Simmons Rocks Urbanknit At New York Fashion Week 2011

American TV Personality/ Designer, Angela Simmons looked stunning as she rocked our very own Starfish Ànkárá Super Snap clutch in blue during the recently concluded Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in New York.

Angela was spotted with the Urbanknit clutch at the front row of the Nanette Lepore Spring 2012 Fashion show at the Stage at Lincoln Centre on September 14, 2011.

Most of you know Angela from her feature (alongside her family) on the MTV reality TV show, “Run’s House” which follows the family life of her father (founding member of hip hop group Run-D.M.C) Rev. Run.

She also went on to star in a spin-off show called “Daddy’s Girls” with her sister Vanessa which follows their life as they start their business, Pastry.
