Experimentation

I have chosen not to write any new year's resolution down so they don't come back and haunt me! This year though one of the things I am going to try to do is EXPERIMENT. Okay, so I have written that one down.

In any case, it’s a major aim. With colours, fabric, textures, new shapes, new ideas. Anything really and hopefully this will also apply to life in general and not just work.

To kick things off, I have been playing with my camera. I have a Canon digital SLR which is permanently on Auto! I am ashamed to say. So I am going to venture into manual mode and hopefully learn a thing or two!

This image was taken in manual mode but with no adjustments to the settings and no Photoshop work. I want it so serve as a reference point.

The flower was from a friend's wedding back in May 2010 and I have kept it ever since to indulge my love for things 'rusty' and weathered.

Been out 'playing' with my camera as I've recently been travelling quite a bit for work. It has all been very exciting and very interesting with the only downside being that I am NOT actually on holiday on these trips and therefore my pictures would bore you to death.

This one I do like though because of the contrast in textures and colours.

Its just a way of saying I have been away from blogging for a short while but I am back and will be updating you on everything thats been going on and whats to come this year! I promise, its going to be interesting!

Oh my days..... you know when you buy an album and you love every single track on the cd.

It doesn't happen often, off the top of my head I know two albums that I loved Peven Everett's 'Studio Confessions' and Marvin Gaye's 'What's Going on'

There are others but I digress.

This was earlier this month at the New England aquarium in Boston which I fell in love with. I was like a big kid and didn't want to leave. There was so much to see and all beautiful in their own way. I am trying to learn more about my camera and trying to get the best use out of it. I love Canon's and had a manual SLR before I got a digital one. What is great is that the lenses are all compatible so I use my old ones.

I can't remember what the creature in the middle of the shot is. Any clues?

Alakija

Often images speak volumes or capture a moment that may never be repeated. I won't go overboard on this but photography and imagery can be so powerful or subtle or both. I can spend hours looking at photographs of almost anything!

A friend of mine, Jide Alakija has a very interesting photoblog. There is a great variety of moments, smiles, colours, textures. Warning!!! it is very addictive but please have a look at Jide's photoblog and let me know what you think. I have so many favourites from his work but then thought I'd ask him to choose one of his favourite images and tell me why he had chosen it.

This is a shot of two very good friends who you may know but are very special to me. Adebola Okelarin and Segun Okelarin (nee Garuba). This was a shot during a video footage where my friend, Charlie Goring was filming for their wedding. I not only like the pure expression of love in the photo but also how the elements around the photo all seem to smother them as Ade expresses his love. I also think it represents how much he loves her in the public eye, as you can see this photo was taken in an open/public space. This shot means a lot to me in light of the ups and downs they have both had coming up to their wedding. As an artist capturing a moment like is more than just skill but honour, as they have shared one of their lovely times with me.
